Mis vecinos Julie y Nate esperan a su primer hij@ para finales de agosto. Charlando sobre los diferentes modelos de cargadores para bebés, les ofrecí prestarles nuestra baby sling hasta el nacimiento del bebé.
Así podían probarla y ver si les gustaba ese modelo.
Lavé mi sling, y después de llevársela a su casa y volver a la mía con las manos vacías, me acongojó pensar que durante todas estas semanas no la iba a ver colgada en el perchero de la entrada.
Layla ya casi no la usa, ¡pesa diez kilos! En cambio, hemos optado por el portabebé tipo mochila Ergo Baby. Tiene mejor soporte para nuestras espaldas, y permite llevar a Layla adelante, en la espalda o sobre la cadera.
Sin embargo, usamos la kepina como manta, como chal para cubrirme mientras le doy la teta en público, o como una nota de color en los muchos días nublados de Seattle. En fin, la tenemos siempre a mano y a la vista.
Así fue que descubrí que, si tengo que elegir un objeto que simbolice el nacimiento de Layla, elegiría la baby sling. Layla fue cargada ahí desde su primer amanecer.
El primero en usarla fue David, a la mañana siguiente del nacimiento. Se volvió un fanático. Hasta hoy, nunca ha paseado a Layla en el cochecito. Y a decir verdad, yo lo he usado unas diez veces.
Al principio, yo le tenía un poco de miedo a ese trapo que se me enredaba por todas partes, y prefería llevar a mi hija en brazos. Sin embargo, en pocos días me di cuenta de lo fácil que hacía mi vida.
Con Layla en su baby sling, acurrucada como un gatito, tenía mis manos libres y podía, entre otras cosas, preparar comida, escribir en mi diario o ir al baño.
Y mi beba estaba donde quería estar: pegada a mi pecho, arrullada por los latidos de mi corazón, envuelta en mi calor.
Con ella pude amantar a Layla discretamente. Y a bordo de la sling Layla comenzó a participar de nuestra vida, viendo lo que veíamos, siguiendo nuestras conversaciones con sus ojitos cada vez más alertas.
Estaba tan cerca nuestro que seguro sintio nuestra emociones: el tango de San Telmo, los jacarandaes de septiembre, los abrazos de los amigos, la calma de las madrugadas frescas sobre el Parque Lezama.
Todavía a los dos nos gusta llevarla cerquita. Mientras, el cochecito sigue en el patio, acumulando tierra y hojas secas.
¿Qué objeto simboliza el nacimiento de sus hijos? ¿Por qué? Si tienen ganas, cuéntenme.
Para mí el símbolo del nacimiento de Martín es un vestido verde de bambula (tipo hindú) que tuve puesto ese día durante gran parte del trabajo de parto. ya me había imaginado con anterioridad que me pondría ese vestido (como quien va a una fiesta), y así fue!!! Y cuando lo vuelva a usar este verano en cierta manera me lo hará revivir.
Además, su futura habitación (ya que duerme con nosotros) también es un símbolo, ya que nació ahí, así que recuerdo con claridad el escenario del parto, donde estábamos cada uno, las luces bajas, la estufa, el espejo, la linterna, las toallas….
